William Lidderdale was a world renowned Governor for the Bank of England from 1889 to 1892. He is credited for having saved Barings Bank in 1890 after they had made a number of risky investments in Argentina and were on the verge of bankruptcy. Along with the Rothschilds, Lidderdale helped to avert a huge global financial crisis.
